Finding Purpose
The Japanese have a word for it: Ikigai, the concept of something worth living for.
Study after study tells us that finding purpose increases wellbeing, good health, and even longevity. TRUE NORTH brings this truth to life, taking viewers on intimate journeys of ordinary people who take uncommon - and often courageous - paths to healing and redemption, guided by an inner voice that tells them this is where they're meant to be.
A study from the University of Wisconsin showed that adults who had a strong purpose in life had increased longevity. More research shows that certain areas of the world, called "longevity hotspots," are filled with people who have found their ikigai. When one has a purpose, they tend to be less depressed, and they are more likely to devote time to their own health and wellbeing. They are more optimistic, sleep better, and are less lonely.
"Scientists, policymakers, and the public alike are recognizing the importance of purpose and meaning for health and wellbeing."
- Dr. Eric Kim, Psychologist

"The two most important days in your life are the day you are born
and the day you find out why."
- Mark Twain

TRUE NORTH Purpose Portratis

Faith Burns is a perfect portrait of what it means to Find Purpose. Journalism, Community, Family, Annapolis: Faith’s TRUE NORTH.
“I found my passion in writing about people, organizations, businesses and the music scene that make our community so special. My dream is to continue to share as much as I can as the next chapter unfolds.”
Troy Boddy has found a unique purpose that inspires us.
“My passion lies in imagining the possibilities. Whether I am teaching and creating learning spaces where young people can gain the knowledge, skills, and confidence to define success for themselves, or doing racial equity work that supports others in building communities grounded in humanity, I am driven by the belief that we can create something better.”
